An Open Letter to Arnab Goswami: #Presstitute is your Baby

I am writing a letter to you Arnab since this is the only way where I can express myself uninterrupted without getting bullied by you. I must tell you that I have closely observed you. When two years back on NewsHour you started focusing on scams most of the prime time English news hungry public, including me, hailed you as one daring journo, and truly you were. As the UPA 2 regime piled up on scams one after the other you continued your aggression & noise on your shows. Come May 2014 we all know what became of the UPA. But very few know what became of you after that. As I said, I have closely observed you Arnab, so today I will tell you what had happened to you in May 2014.

The results of Lok Sabha election 2014 got into your head. Somebody made you believe, very strongly, that the UPA fall was because of the new ‘trendsetter’ in the town: Lord Arnab Goswami of the English prime time News Hour. You started believing that your baby, the News Hour, will now on decide the top agendas of this country. You started taking it as a personal achievement when it was not really you but others out there on streets fighting it out with the corrupt regime. You made it personal Arnab Goswami. A journalist reports on the events in the country. But you started reporting with an aim to set agendas. You shifted your focus less on journalism and more on influencing by sensationalism. From then you started disappointing me.

Arnab, being focused on what you think is right is a good virtue. But when keeping focus in a particular direction is with an intention to only do something different, however wrong it may be, it becomes a boon. Trending #ShameOnTimesNow was one such moment that should have made you realize that your daily hour of 'daring journalism’, as you claim, had degraded to an arrogant irrational noisy hour. You had successfully brought street vandalism against out cricket team to a prime time news show. Congratulations. But that fine day you lost me as a viewer.

Being shamed by Tweeples, nevertheless, you chose to satisfy your appetite for sensationalism by going after a retired General of the Indian Army. Don’t tell me that you, the chief of a kangaroo court called ‘News Hour’ who investigates and gets secret documents on his debates, wasn't able to catch the sarcastic tone in General Singh’s statement. I mean, seriously, do you want me to believe that? You chose not hear the tone because you had made it personal with the General after he had strongly rebutted the media on his Pak Embassy visit reporting. You were waiting for something to catch hold of him again and you twisted his words to take your revenge. Always remember its you who started this.

General VK Singh had joined the Army in 1970 and you were born in 1973. You see the point? One shouldn't mess with such an experienced armyman without facts. And that’s where you got a whacking insult. Thanks to you, Media stands exposed identified with a new terminology of “presstitutes”. You had never expected such a daring reply from the General but it’s not only you who can bully others. Right?

Go Travel Forever! Socially Distanced Trvel Motivation!

Today your condition is like that of Hitler on the day of ’20 July Plot’, when after escaping death & getting seriously injured in a bomb blast in his headquarters he proudly declared “I am God, nobody can kill me”. This was his way of reassuring himself of his greatness which we all know was utterly false. Arnab Goswami, I don’t see the News Hour now but I assume you sensationalise, interrupt & bully as usual on your daily show. May be that’s your way to reassure yourself that you are still the 'God' for the English news hungry public. Retrospect before you push yourself to total irrelevance.

My Best Wishes!

    6. I am in complete agreement. I too stopped seeing Times Now News Hour for over a year, Arnab is the hard core Jurno. Mr Mani Shanker Iyer had once quoted him as" If Pak have Hafees Sayid, then we have Arnab" True qlty jouro's are Karan Thapar, Pranav Roy, Late Vinod Mehta & Rajat Sharma who provide qlty news and debates.

    2. Prateekbhai I very much appreciate your views on Arnab. He is incorrigible and would never turn a decent and true Jurno like Rajat Sharma Rahul Kanwal. Of the English channels tuningTimes Now with Arnab on the debates that too with a handful of panalists echoing/supporting him, is a nightmare. I avoid his debates, for they are nothing but noisy and meaningless, leading to disputes amongst the speakers and Arnab.

Yes TOI news hour by Arnab became quite horrible failing in basics. Why they show flames all the time.Do they want burn out all.Arnab constantly interrupts all.More than concentration on issues it is like a show of lung power by one and all most of the time. The news hour is like street dogs fighting.

  10. Here is the update... One person (Assuming 20% times, he is wrong), but stands up everyday, he dares everyone, he ensures his participants comes up with the logic or data to support on what they say, he is disrespectful to the person who is misusing his position, yes he doesn't allow people to complete their sentence, he talks more, he generate business for times now, he makes money... end of the day, he raises voice against all people who comes on his way, who were wrong. Because of showing an individual's shame to nation... I am sure he is in the target of all boons, terrorists. The same person who took Rahul Gandhi off on his candid chat... the same person have questioned, why nation is behind to know what is Rahul Gandhi is doing. I see this as your view... If you have a freedom of choice to write then he also has freedom of choice to question. Though I am not a great fan of any shows in TV, but this is my submission to your writings. Jaihind.

Right or wrong is purely a perception. No one, including Arnab, has right to decide right and wrong. His job is to bring out facts and leave the viewers to decide on thier own.

  11. Absolutely True!!!! I have also stopped watching the program, as it seems to be a program where Mr. Arnab Goswamy showcases his talent of bullying the speakers. It sadly never seems to be a program where serious issues can be discussed, it is too noisy and is a platform for chaos created by Mr. Goswamy.

  15. Now a days The times now news centre is becoming just like news setter,(Just like trend setter). what arnab want to show or tel, we viewer has to see/hear that. He is trying to create environment where he is the boss & everybody should listen to him & cant question him (because he is unable to take question). He is no more interested in journalism but interested in creating news.

  16. GOOD LETTER. HE DO ONLY FOR TRP WANT TO BE NO 1 IN TRP AND NOT IN JOURNALISUM. WORK DONE BY V K SINGH SHOULD BE APPRICIATED WHOLE WHORLD HAS PRAISE AND OUR PAID MEDIA IS JUST CRITISING. 20. Well, I do appreciate the fact that Arnab does need to tone down cause he definitely does get overbearing on the program and goes completely overboard with those Decibel levels. However, having myself worn the uniform and that brass on my shoulders, I am a very proud soldier of the Great Indian Army and the men who make it and the General has disappointed us beyond belief.. Once an Army man always an army man is the rule the soldiers live by and for the GENERAL- the ex Army chief who took on the entire world and fought his guts out for those extra months in chair had suddenly lost his voice against some fictional protocols- Completely Unacceptable from a man of his stature... And then to go and make it a muck game.. Unbecoming of an army man..

  21. Well written Prateek excepting that his name appears once too often. I stopped watching this program which is nothing less than a brawl outside a bar or a traffic snarl. This guy has gone nuts and must be put in place. Debates are anything but healthy and he always tries to score a point over everyone every time.

  23. Excellent write up, Prateek. Very well articulated.
"Lies Now" has now degenerated in to the pursuit of yellow journalism amidst a cacophony of mindless shouting..more reminiscent of a fish market.

  24. Subject: Times now, Mr Arnab Goswami. 5 / 5 stars
In India,it is like an eternal gulami kind of attitude, ''Yes sir' , 'Touch dirty feet of dirty so called seniors/ superiors gulami' father hitting adult children is OK sx. Mr Arnab Goswami at least has enough courage to contradict the stereotype & states facts or his mind so the participants can refute & bring new ideas boldly into conversation, & get to the truth. i cannot switch to any other channel once Arnab Goswami comes on.
There is also something called 'investigating reporting' you know.
YES SIR' shy India is changing for the better I hope.

  25. Excellent Write up. Tonight, I happened to view a News Hour debate involving retired. Supreme Court Judge Markandeya Katju. Throughout the program, Arnab did not let Justice Katju speak even a single sentence without interrupting, bullied him around, and pronounced his 'judgement' before abruptly ending the show.
