"Yeh Dil Mange More". This is a very famous caption of a famous soft drink brand. Thats all.Isn't it?? Well, for me it is not. To me, this caption brings back the memory of the toughest modern day wars, The Kargil War - 1999. It brings back to my mind the smiling face of Param Vir Capt. Vikram Batra and his collegues from an interview with Barkha Dutt just before they went for their last mission. Capt. Batra used this caption as a winning signal to his Commanding Officer after they had captured Pt 5140. His sense of humour , in the situations when most of the men break down , and his confidence was remarkable. These are the men who fight for us. They are the one who deserve respect and care. They are the real leaders rather than our politicians, the so called leaders, who don't even care to pay homage to our martyrs at the 10th anniversary of Vijay Diwas.
I read a column in Hindustan Times which said that the President of India was invited for the Vijay Diwas celebrations at Drass this year but she refused the offer. Why ?? Simple, President is the Supreme Leader of Armed Forces in India but has no rights of motivating the troops at his or her own will. Of course, the President will have to ask the government before accepting such invitations and the fact that the present government considers this war as "BJP's War" keeps the President aloof of such celebrations. Some ministers have even gone on record to say that they don't even remember the Vijay Diwas. Great!!! I want to ask them if they still remember that they are born in India. Unfortunately they will answer in affirmative. This is what our government thinks about our soldiers.
Well, leave this. I am not here to present that age old picture of our politicians. I am here to praise the Gallantry of our soldiers. Their valour and the sacrifice they made for us. They were the one who told Indians that they are no less than anybody on this earth and are ready to take on the World. Their acts of bravery have inculcated an aggressive winning attitude in youth of India. This Vijay Diwas is not only about winning the Kargil War or thrashing away Pakistanis and getting them to their knees, yet again, before India. But this Vijay Diwas also marks the 10th anniversary of the new aggressive yet intellectual , progressing India. This marks the anniversary of our unity and togetherness. No matter what comes our way, Indians are united together at the time of crisis, as this was.
Now let us get back to the real issue. Leave alone politicians, do we, the youth of India, remembers 26th July 1999?? Oh, of course I will have to ask this since it's not Valentine Day or Rose day or Choclate day to which youth pays much attention. Most of us don't even care to know about these diwas and all. Wars do happen, why do we care, after all we are safe. But the "War" is not as simple as the word is. The real war is miles away from our homes where our soldiers fight not only the enemy but also the natural conditions. They fight, they die, they win in conditions where a normal person would freeze and die in minutes. They do all this for whom, for money??? No not at all, they do it for country's pride, for all of us and we don't even think about these things.
I do not say that every single person should leave his or her work for the sake of celebrating the Vijay Diwas. Only a single prayer or remembrance for those who laid their life is enough. Even the curiosity to know about our real heroes is a way of paying homage to them. The biggest contribution today's youth can give to this country is by opting the career in the armed forces. Not everyone is suited for this job except a blessed few. But tell me one thing, unless more & more youth will opt for this profession how we will find those blessed few to get them at the right place, in right profession. No one is coming from abroad or from any other part of the universe to defend our country. We are the one who are responsible for the security of our borders. There is a lack of personnel in our armed forces but that is not because we don't have the quality men & women in our country. This is a result of ignorance, a total ignorance on our part towards this profession. But again I'll say the same thing, we are responsible for our country's security and for this we'll have to actively take part in this profession also.
I want you all to please remember, at least for a moment, our soldiers who fought for us. "They sacrificed their present for our Good Future".
JAI HIND!!!!!
