China: Have they developed fast or are we lagging behind???

The big dragon is here again and the heat is ON!!!!! Yes, that’s true, our neighbor China is emerging as one of the fastest growing economies in world. But, that’s truly not a matter of concern since we also are one of the fastest developing nations. The fact that troubles me is that China is concentrating its growing economic and military powers against India. Recent intrusions and several other issues including separate Visa issued to J&K residents are of great concern.
On the event of 60th anniversary of Communist rule in China, it brought out its new weapons for the show on streets. Almost 90% of the weapons were new and symbolized not only increasing Chinese strength but also the strong will power to use it. Last month we had an intrusion problem on Indo-Chinese border which included firing and death of at least one Indian Soldier. In reply to these events Mr. Defense Minister says that these “Small Events” must not be taken seriously and that we are in talks with Beijing on these issues. Great one!! Tell me if I am wrong in saying that Mr. Defense Minister does not consider lives of Indian soldiers worth giving importance to. On top of that, disclosure of Air Force Chief, about the unsaid truth that Indian Air Force is not well equipped of taking their Chinese counterparts face to face, was taken back forcefully by the diplomats. I am a great admirer of Indian Defense forces but still I am afraid that the statement made by the Air Force Chief is genuine and that we lag behind china in our military preparations.
The point which I want to bring out here in this blog is that today, you accept it or not, we are a bit afraid of China’s preparations. And what do you think is the reason for this?? There can be two reasons, as far as I can make out-
1. Chinese government has done an exceptional job in developing the country in spite of facing population explosion on its land. If this is to be taken as the reason then considering that developing at such a high pace in 60 years is next to impossible and surprisingly, China has made it possible.

2. China has developed at the right speed and India has developed at a slower pace than normal. I am very disappointed to look at this as one of the probable reasons but can’t help it!!! In fact, this is the only reason of what is happening today.

One can argue that the form of government in China, Communist, has been more efficient than the democracy here in India. I would like to reply this in a different manner by taking a live example of West Bengal. If the Communism had been much efficient then West Bengal would have developed at par with China till now. It has been ruled by the Communists from ages. On the contrary, this “Communist Ruled” part of India is underdeveloped than the rest of the Country. Thus, I don’t take it a point comparing the form of governments in both the countries.

The difference lies in the mentality and the will to reach the top. China has not developed at a great pace. Take the world history in account and you’ll see that all the countries, including U.S.A., have developed at the same pace as China has, after independence. It is only India that has been dragged down by its corrupt babus and politicians. And now that others have gone ahead of us, they are posing a threat to our sovereignty.

Our politicians have given speeches every year to better the lives of poor in the country. They have promised education to all from years since independence. China has implemented these promises practically. Do you think it has not faced problems which India is facing?? No, it has, and in fact more than us. It also had cast and religious problems and moreover the population control problems. But, the country handled it wisely. They do not have problem of terrorism, no fear on streets, nothing like that. Why?? Just because of their shrewd policies. They have a will to become U.S. but in India we have a strong will to go to U.S. and earn for them.

I am not saying that our development till now is in vain. No, not at all. But the development is not widespread in our land. First of all it is slow and on top of that it has not reached the roots. Looking at the military aspect, hundreds of deals are blocked in government files here and there just because of the cozy manners of Babus. And the effect of this kind of behavior is evident now. Our research development has proved useless in all these years. We still spend millions of dollars on weapon deals with western countries.

It will be good for our government as well as for our society to take these border developments with china as an eye-opener. We need to revive our nationalistic spirit to the fullest. We need to see beyond IT and be part of the defense forces willingly. It’s time to wake up for the country and it’ll be good for us to realize it before it is late.
