It is clear what this post is going to talk about. But, is the title suitable for the whole episode that took place last week? I doubt. I think this is the clash of ideologies. One side is taken by the new corporate world ideology that demands results and nothing else. Opposite side is taken by the old ideology of Indian politics which sees all the money making businesses in the country as its property. What started as a tweet by Mr. Modi has now given a chance to his detractors within the BCCI and in politics to enter the wealthy world of IPL administration. Mr. Pawar and Mr. Abdullah are few of the heinous politicians who want to be grab this opportunity by making useless comments on this topic. I fear that this whole episode would end up leaving one of the most successful institutions of India, the IPL, in the clutches of politicians.
As far as Mr. Lalit Modi is concerned why can’t we consider him as a whistleblower? If he produces relevant proofs for the allegations of being influenced by Mr. Tharoor then why can’t he be treated as the person who brought out the wrong doings in IPL in front of the whole nation? The detractors of Mr. Modi would be of the view that he himself has conflict of interest in many teams of IPL, so why shouldn’t he be punished for that. Absolutely correct!! But, somewhere this will have to start. May be after solving Kochi team’s case of mysterious investors others team would be lined up for the similar kind of investigation. Of course, that should be done.
But, what I am talking about here is that Mr. Modi has delivered perfectly on what he was hired for by the BCCI. He has taken IPL to the world stage. He should not be scrapped from his due just because some union minister doesn’t like his tweets. IPL should work like a corporate and judge him by his result delivering capabilities and not according to the views of some minister. Till now Mr. Modi was an entrepreneur of modern India. Now, he has become a villain, a drug peddler and god knows what all these media people have brought out from his past. This is the beauty of media that counts only one mistake and not hundreds of good things.
Same is the case with Mr. Tharoor. I am not against Mr. Tharoor until Mr. Modi produces relevant proofs to support what he said in his tweets about the share of Kochi team and the phone calls made by the minister himself. I think Mr. Tharoor’s stand as a mentor for the team (what he claims to be) is fine. Even if he has invested money in the team it is ok. If I would have had such huge amounts of money then IPL would have been the best investment opportunity. Nothing is wrong in that. But, will the government show the same zeal in scrutinizing the wealth of the ministers and politicians as it has shown by sending I-T people to IPL office?? I doubt on this one.
At last, one thing is clear. This episode has raised many questions and has till now answered none of them. The system needs to be changed for accommodating the new visionary ideas like that of IPL.
Thanks!!
